painting / The Piper’s Return 2018-19
THE PIPER'S RETURN was a solo show in July 2019 of paintings, drawings and etchings at Pictorem Gallery London, stimulated by the medieval legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Themes: charisma, populism, predators, demagogues, Nazis, hysteria, abuse of power. The Nazis used Hamelin prison to torture and kill people. After the war, the British hanged 202 war criminals there. The bodies of the SS's victims were dug up for reburial. It's a hotel now, with extensive gardens for the guests.
